Abstract

396,960. Siphon-discharge waterwaste-preventers. ECKHARDT, H., 123, Kjelsaasveien, V. Aker, near Oslo, Norway. Oct. 28, 1932, No. 30261. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1931. [Class 26.] Apparatus for enabling the delivery of a predetermined quantity of liquid for flushing water-closets or other purposes, comprises a container provided with an inlet valve closed by hydrostatic pressure when the liquid has attained a predetermined level. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the inlet pipe 1 has ports 3 and the sleeve valve 4 is connected by a member 6 to a resilient diaphragm 7 forming the bottom of the container 2 ; the supply pressure assists in holding the valve closed by action on internal shoulders 5, 5<1>, and the speed of closing is controlled by a dashpot 49, 50. An outlet siphon 12 is primed by manual opening of the valve to admit more liquid, by means of a push-rod 15 engaging a member 14 and having a recess 18 to hold the rod in its inner position against the action of a spring 17, until freed by further ascent of the diaphragm 7 when the container contains its minimum volume. A float 19 having a projecting passage 21 admits air to the siphon when the float seats on the siphon end 13, the siphon has an aperture 40 and adjustable needle valve 39, and an adjustable air inlet pipe 44 is provided. The siphon may be replaced by a valve-controlled outlet pipe 52, the members 14, 15 then being dispensed with. In modifications, the diaphragm may form part of the side of the container or part of its bottom ; in the latter case, the valve is opened by a swing- able member 32, Fig. 2, having an eccentric portion engaging the pin 14. In the form shown in Fig. 4, an internal diaphragm chamber 7 is provided, the inlet pipe 1 is horizontal, and the actuating arm 43 is adjustably loaded at 38.
