Feb. 2, 1932, No. 3074. ]Class 141.] Tinsel strings, garlands, &c. are made by feeding parallel core members 42, wrapping plated copper wires 25 or other material about the core members, feeding other members 42 around groved rollers 115 so as to grip the wrapping material 25 against the core members 42, severing the wrapping material at two points, and twisting the members 42 to cause the severed portions of the covering material to stand out in all directions from the members 42. The members 42 may be supplied by eight reels 41, four of which hold plated copper wire and four hold yarn. Two copper wires and two yarns are passed through the centre of the wrapping head 18 and one of each is guided in a groove at each side of a tongue member 32. One each of the remaining wires and yarns is fed to a grooved roller 115 at each side of the machine. The core members 42 and the wrapping material are fed forward by a wire 59 which passes from a spool 57 around guide pulleys 46, 50 to a second spool 60. The twisting is performed by spindles 120, one of which is provided for each string. The spindles 120 serve also to take up the twisted string, the spindles being guided upon brackets 122, 123. Cam means arc provided for automatically adjusting the position of the severing device, so that the length of tinsel strips held by a set of members 42 progressively increases to a maximum and then progressively decreases.
