513,361. Scrapers; handles; knitted fabrics. GOODLOE, A. M. Feb. 10, 1939, No. 4492. [Classes 61 (i) and 61 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] A device for scraping, abrading or cleaning surfaces comprises a flat backing member 10, a handle member 17 superposed behind the backing member and a facing or working element of metallic mesh fabric 23 engaged over the surface of the backing member with its marginal portions inturned over a raised rim 16 on the backing member and clamped thereto by a rim 18 on the handle member 17 which is detachably secured to the backing member by means of bolts 20 and nuts 22. The metallic fabric is preferably knitted from ribbon like wire providing a multiplicity of sharp projections having an efficient scraping effect and the backing is of relatively soft material, a suitable one being balsa wood, permitting the metallic mesh to partly embed therein and avoid undue creeping when in use.
