395,969. Stuffing - box substitutes. PACKLESS GLAND CO., Ltd., Thermoflex Works, Windmill Road, Sunbury, Middlesex, and HURST, W. F. F. MARTIN-, The End House, Roehampton, London. Jan. 27, 1933, No. 2680. [Class 122 (v).] In a rubbing collar packing between relatively rotating parts, one of the bearing elements comprises a spiral strip 17 of bearing metal mounted on a resilient backing 18a in an annular or spiral groove 16 in a support 3. When an annular groove is employed the turns of the strip are separated by a graphite impregnated tape and the outer turn may be soldered to the support. In the case of a spiral groove, the outer or inner turns of the strip are housed in annular grooves. The support 3 is connected to the casing 12 by a bellows 13 and pressed axially by a spring 14.
