Abstract

Fibres or fabrics consisting of or containing dry spun cellulose acetate are rendered resistant to delustring, by subjecting them to the action of dilute aqueous acetic acid, under such conditions of concentration, temperature &c. that substantially no swelling of the fibres occurs, and then washing them free from the acid. Subsequent treatments such as creping, scouring and dyeing at the boil do not then delustre the cellulose acetate. Instead of or in addition to dilute aqueous acetic acid, formic, propionic, hydrochloric, nitric or chloracetic acid may be employed. The treated goods may again be rendered susceptible to delustring by treatment with dilute aqueous succinic, lactic or sulphuric acid.
