[Class 124.] An internal-combustion ram comprises a piston 2, Fig. 1, and a cylinder 1 which delivers the blow through a foot-piece 30. An auxiliary piston 5 mounted in the cylinder is manually operated to serve as a pump to draw the mixture into the explosion chamber 7. At the top of its stroke the piston 5 closes a contact 36 and explodes the mixture ; the cylinder is thrown upwards until an exhaust 8 is uncovered, when it falls to deliver the blow, aided by a spring 26. A valve 6 is associated with the auxiliary piston 5, and is opened on downward movement of the latter to permit escape of the residual combustion products. In a ram for pile driving or sheet piling, Fig. 2, the auxiliary piston 5<1> is maintained in its uppermost position by a spring 10 so that after its initial depression by a hand pin 18 the action is automatic. The outlet valve 6<1> is also spring- mounted and is opened by the residual pressure when the cylinder falls, so as completely to exhaust the cylinder. A spring-mounted valve 14 is closed by the explosion pressure, but opens on the subsequent reduction of pressure. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that a fuel vaporizer 20 is disposed in the lower part of the cylinder 1, Fig. 2 (Cancelled) and that the ram is provided with interchangeable foot pieces 32, Fig. 2 (Cancelled) and 31, Fig. 4 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
