Abstract
394,929. Tramway &c. vehicles. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London, and MARSHALL, W. L., 24, Winckley Road, Broadgate, Preston. Feb. 28, 1933, No. 6072. [Class 103 (vi).] The side members 8 of the truck frame of a tramway or like vehicle pass below the axleboxes 2 and are suspended from the latter by means of horizontally disposed springs. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 quarter-elliptic suspension springs 6 are employed, connected at one end bv brackets 7 to the members 8 and at the other end held in place by brackets 5 secured to the usual yoke members 1 passing over the axle-boxes 2. The load of the vehicle frame 9 is transmitted to the truck frame 8 by springs 10, 11. In a modification, Fig. 3, horizontally disposed helical springs 16 are arranged to act between transverse members 17 secured to the frame 8 and fork members 14 mounted on bell-crank levers 12, which are pivoted at 13 to the frame 8 and at their inner ends abut against the lower ends of the yoke 1 so as to transmit thereto both vertical and horizontal thrusts. In both constructions the lower ends of the yoke are strengthened by distance tubes 3 carried on pins 4.
