Abstract
394,820. Drawing-apparatus for spinning-machines. MORTON, C., 32, Garden Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, U.S.A. July 18, 1932, No. 20348. [Class 120 (ii).] Means for drafting fibres in spinning - frames comprise a group of rollers including upper and lower front and back rolls 13, 14 and 15, 16 and upper and lower intermediate carrier rolls 17, 18, with the surfaces of the rollers set to run close together but just clear of each other, and transmission gearing at one side of the frame including a rotatable member 36 at the rear of the drafting group said member being geared to the front draft rolls and independently geared to the back and intermediate rolls. The front roll 13 drives through a pinion 35 a wheel 37 mounted on the same shaft 39 as a pinion 38 which drives the shaft 36 through a wheel 40. The shaft 36 is mounted in bearings 41, 42 and carries gear wheels 43, 44 which drive the intermediate and back lower rolls by gears 45, 46 and 49, 50 respectively. The shaft 36 may comprise the lower roller of a pair of auxiliary back rollers. The front and back lower rollers 13, 15 are ribbed, and the intermediate lower roller is smooth to permit the use of a heavy intermediate upper roller. The gear 46 is mounted on a lever 47 pivoted at 48 so that it may be swung upwardly to disengage the drive to the intermediate set of rollers.
