Abstract

394,706. Utilizing movements of vehicles; belt gearing ; pulleys. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, London.- (Gordon, J.; 252, Niagara Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.) Jan. 1, 1932, No. 79. [Class 103 (iii).] In order to permit the alternative use of belt or chain transmission in driving auxiliary apparatus such as dynamos, compressors, &c. from the axle of a railway vehicle, the vehicle axle and the shaft of the dynamo &c. have mounted thereon combined belt-pulleys and chain-wheels, each comprising a toothed ring 2 so disposed between two rim parts 4 forming the pulley that a belt can be employed without interference by the chain teeth. In the case of the combined element as shown for mounting on the vehicle axle the ring 2 having a twin set of teeth 3 is secured by bolts 9 to the web 7 of a hub 1, while the rims 4 and spacing rings 14 are secured by bolts 12 to the ring 2, all of the parts 1 .. 4 and 14 being divided diametrically to facilitate their mounting on and dismounting from the vehicle axle. The teeth 3 are sunk slightly below the level of the rims 4, and the spacing rings are made of such thickness that a chain engaging the teeth 3 is maintained out of contact with the rims. In the combined element arranged on the dynamo &c. shaft the various parts are preferably undivided, the teeth 3 being formed directly on the web 7, and the rims 4 being secured to such web.
