Abstract
394,471. Magnetic separators. JAGGI, R. C. FORRER-, 4, Rue de l'UniversitÚ, Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin, and MINES DOMANIALES DE POTASSE D'ALSACE, 140, Faubourg d'Altkirch, Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, both in France. May 6, 1932, No. 13118. Convention date, May 8, 1931. [Class 72.] Mixed products are separated by directing them horizontally between the poles of a magnet or electromagnet so that they fall freely in the field produced, the poles of the magnet being formed so that the lines of force are directed as if they emanated from the centre of curvature of the parabola of the free fall of the particles not affected by the field. The polepieces have the shape of cylinders, the directrices of which, in the vicinity of the origin of the fall, have the same centre of curvature as the free fall parabola. The products are fed from a hopper 1 on to a slide 3a which is horizontally oscillated so that a sheet of material leaves the edge p of the slide and falls between the polepieces 4, 5. The paramagnetic and diamagnetic products are directed to the right and left of the free fall parabola 8 and are collected in boxes 9, 10 while the particles falling in the parabola 8 fall on an elastic band 11 and are diverted into boxes 12, 13. The end 4a of the soft iron pole 4 is made of ferro-cobalt.
