Abstract

393,580. Looms with wave-like shedding, beat-up, and picking motions. MUTTER, K., Triptis, Thuringia, Germany. Dec. 3, 1981, No. 33504. [Classes 142 (i), 142 (ii), 142 (iii), and 142 (iv).] Looms with successive shuttles inserting simultaneously single wefts in separate sheds to produce single-ply flat fabrics.-In looms in which a number of simultaneously-operated shuttles provided with weft holders travel across the loom in one direction to lay single wefts, these are severed from the weft in the holders at the end of each pick. The shedding, beat-up, and picking motions operate in waves across the loom, and are produced by series of cams or eccentrics arranged on shafts in the manner of a worm or helix. Shuttles ; . shuttle - races picking - motions ; reeds ; beat-up motions.-The shuttle is formed by a pin 12, Fig. 3, mounted on a base 11 and is provided with an eyed guide 14a for leading the weft 14 into position to be engaged by the beat-up eccentrics 2 spaced by discs 3 on the shaft 1. The part 11 of the shuttle has a dovetail part engaging in corresponding recesses in spaced bars 8 through which the warps 15 pass. A downwardly projecting part of the shuttle base extends into a square-topped screw thread formed by eccentrics and spacers 6, 7 mounted on the picking-shaft 5. In some cases, a solid screw is made and then divided into eccentric disc-like parts with a parting-tool. Weft-cutting.-As each shuttle emerges from the weaving position, the weft end is severed by a cutter 29, Fig. 3, on the beat-up shaft 1 engaging with a fixed cutter 29a, Fig. 5. Selvages, forming and protecting ; treating warps and wefts.-In some cases, selvage motions are employed, or the weft ends may be allowed to project from the fell of the fabric and then be turned back and woven in. Instead of weaving selvages, the weft ends may be secured to the warps by adhesive. Shedding- motions.-Triangular cams 25, Fig. 1, arranged along and around the shedding- shaft 26 in the form of a worm engage slotted guides 24 connected to levers 20 attached to cords 19 passing over pulleys 18, 18a. The cords 19 are each connected by eyes 17 to a number of healds. Operation. The shuttles travel continuously across the loom in the shed waves, Fig. 4, each weft of each operative shuttle being beaten-up progressively as it is laid. On emerging from the edge of the fabric, each weft is cut, leaving a portion trailing from the shuttle to be inserted and beaten-up when that shuttle again enters the other side of the fabric. The emerging shuttles are engaged by a notched disc and carried into the path of a worm 28, Fig. 1, for conveying them to the other side of the loom while being guided by their dovetail parts in a corresponding groove in a plate. A second notched disc leads the shuttles into operative position in engagement with the picking worm.
