Abstract
389,691. Automatic circuit-breakers; oil-break switches. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Paul, W. E. ; 2279, Grand Boulevard, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) June 15, 1932, No. 16941. Convention date, June 15, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] To enable an oil or other circuit-breaker to open very rapidly when tripped, the spaced cross-bars 1 carrying the moving contacts are releasably connected to the operating rod 2 carrying them. The rod 2 carries a pair of plates 13 between which are pivoted at 12 a pair of latches 11, rollers 19 on which engage projections 18 on members 16 secured to the cross-bars 1. The latches are formed with armatures 22 adapted to be attracted on overload by U-shaped magnetic straps 21 secured to the plates 13 and straddling the cross-bars 1 so as to be energized by the current therein. Springs 14, the upper abutments 15 of which are secured to the rod 2, impart a rapid movement to the cross-bars, the travel of which is designed to clear the circuit, but the rod 2 is also tripped and in descending resets the latches so that the breaker is ready for reclosing. Spring buffers 23 absorb the opening shock.
