Abstract

386,295. Converting. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitats-Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) April 8, 1931, No. 10377. Convention date, April 8, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 38 (ii).] In a rectifier or inverter system comprising a number of series-connected units each of which comprises two or more grid-controlled discharge devices 13, 14-15, 16-17, 18 associated with a transformer 3, 4, 5, a potentiometer 9, 10, 11 is provided across the D.C. terminals 1, 2 in order to obtain a uniform distribution of potential across the units at starting. Switches 23, 24, 26, 27 are provided in association with the potentiometer whereby when operation has been initiated, the potentiometer may be disconnected from the units. For operation on a polyphase A.C. system, the transformers 3, 4, 5 are coupled to a polyphase transformer 12 in the manner indicated, and the necessary phase displacement between the units is obtained by appropriate phase displacement of the grid potentials. Condensers 19, 20, 21 and inductances 6, 7, 8 are employed to improve the voltage wave form in each unit.
