386,128. Studs for athletic and like footwear. TUFFREY, H. J., 34, Station Road, Rushden, Northamptonshire. Jan. 22, 1932, No. 2022. [Class 17 (ii).] Soles and heels 1 of athletic footwear have studs or spikes 3, each with a head 4 at its inner end passed through apertures 2 in the sole from the inside of the sole. A portion of the shank or stud is then upset by hammering upon a tool 5 to form a flange 6 against the outer face of the sole or heel and hold the stud or spike in position. In a modified form, the shank of the stud or spike has a cylindrical barrel portion extending from the head 4 and projecting beyond the outer face of the sole and this portion is pressed outwardly to form the flange.
