Abstract
385,954. Twisting and winding machines. BRITISH BEMBERG, Ltd., Hazel House, Milk Street, London. April 2, 1931, No. 9996. Convention date, April 2, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 120 (ii).] In an apparatus for twisting and winding yarn on to a bobbin of uneven diameter means are provided for exerting constant tension on the thread from the twisting bobbin. The twisting bobbin 11 is placed on a spindle 16, rotated by a belt 12, driven from a pulley 13 and frictionally driving a pulley 15, and the yarn 37 passes in a balloon from the twisting bobbin through an eye 38, a friction eye 39, and an eye 40 to a guide wheel 41 on the end of a spring 42, whence it passes around a guide pulley 26 to the bobbin 21. A motor 43 drives the shaft 14, which carries the pulley 13, and drives a shaft 45, from which belts 44 drive the shaft 25 which in turn by gears 47, 48 drives the shaft 46. The shaft 46 carries an eccentric 30 which reciprocates a rod 29 carrying the traverse bar 28. The vertical reciprocations of the bar 29 cause, by means of the link 31, horizontal reciprocations of the shaft 25 as the friction pulleys 24 on the shaft 25 are reciprocated radially over the surface of discs 23 on the shafts 22 of the bobbins 21. The reciprocations of the guide pulley 26 on the traverse bar 28 and of the driving pulley 24 are so adjusted that the speed at which the yarn is wound on the bobbin 21 is constant whatever the radius of the winding. The spindle 16 is supported on an arm 17 pivoted at 18 and is held in contact with the belt 12 by the spring 19. To stop the rotation of a twister the lever 17 is pivoted by the handle 20 about the pivot 18. An individual winding bobbin may be stopped by rotating the lever 32 to lift the disc 23 from the pulley 24. The handle 32 is connected by levers 34, 35 and a link 36 with a rod 33 connected to the pivoted arm 17 so that by movement of the handle 32 the winding and twisting bobbins may be simultaneously stopped or started. If desired the twisting bobbin may be arranged to start a little while before the winding bobbin. As the bobbin 21 fills it rotates the wheel 43 on the screw-threaded rod 27 to increase the height of the guide 26. The ballooning of the yarn from the bobbin 11, the friction eye 39 and the spring 42 all compensate for small irregularities of tension in the yarn.
