Abstract
385,402. Drying pottery &c. GRINDLEY, W. H., The Cedars, Stone, Staffordshire, NORMAN, D. G., Old Hall, Madeley, near Crewe, GREATBATCH, G., Romford, The Westlands, and MASSEY, A., Inglewood, Whitehouse Road, both in Newcastle, Staffordshire. Nov. 14, 1931, No. 31566. [Class 34 (ii).] Relates to means for distributing the drying air with uniformity of velocity, in " mangle " apparatus for drying pottery &c. The articles are carried on lath trays 8 which are provided with rubber edges 8b and are suspended by metal straps 8a from pins 7b on vertical chain-conveyers 7. Air, which may be heated, is blown by a fan 10 through pipes 9, 11 opening into branch pipes 12 disposed between the up and down portions of the conveyers. The branch pipes have deflectors 12a over slots 12b the depth of which slots increases in the direction away from the air supply. The effective area of the slots is adjustable by vertically sliding plates 14 of decreasing height. The branch pipes may be of oval section with the deflectors upwardly inclined from the lower edge.
