Abstract
385,067. Electroplating. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Nov. 6, 1931, No. 30791. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1930. [Class 41.] Aluminium oran alloy thereof is prepared for plating with cadmium, nickel, copper or other metal by first forming an oxide film thereon by anodic action and then reducing this by cathodic treatment in a " degreasing " bath containing metallic compounds whereby an intermediate layer of copper, brass or other metal is deposited. The first bath may be of 30-40 per cent chromic acid, containing some sulphuric acid, 20-60 volts being used. The " degreasing " bath should contain a saponifying agent and should produce a plentiful supply of hydrogen at the cathode. It may consist of sodium carbonate and caustic soda together with a double cyanide of copper, zinc or other metal. The cathodic treatment may be at 5-6 volts.
