Abstract
384,856. Typewriters &c. JACKSON, W. A., 2342, Madison Avenue, Montreal, Canada. Feb. 29, 1932, No. 6046. Convention date, Jan. 29. [Class 100 (iv).] Carbon-sheet arrangements.-To permit repeated use of carbon sheets in typewriters and other machines, the papers and carbon sheets are fed frictionally as a unit during typing, the unit is retracted to release the carbon sheets from frictional engagement, the carbon sheets are retracted by a spring into position for being interleaved with fresh papers, the typed papers are fed forwards without the carbon sheets and are removed, the carbon sheets are frictionally engaged with the fresh papers, and the operations are repeated. In the apparatus shown in Figs. 10 and 11, a frame 9, detachably mounted on the carriage 8, supports a shaft 20 which is connected to a spring arranged in a stationary drum 27, and is provided with drums 21, 22 on which are wound tapes 23, 24 carrying a carbon-sheet holder 29. The carbon sheets 35, 37, 38, Fig. 4, are attached to strips 33. which are mounted on studs 30 on the holder and are retained by a spring strip 30a having slots for engaging notches 32 in the studs. Webs 15 .. 18 are led between guides 14 on the frame and are threaded between the carbon sheets. The frame supports a block 41 which can be rocked into engagement with the webs. Initially the webs and carbon sheets are in the position shown in Figs. 10 and 11, the leading edges 48 of the carbon sheets being slightly below the leading edges of the webs. After the first forms on the webs have been typed, the webs and carbon sheets are fed backwards until the carbon sheets have passed the feed-rollers 7, the spring-urged shaft 20 being thereby permitted to retract the carbon sheets into register with the fresh forms on the webs. The webs are then fed forwards into position for permitting the typed forms to be torn off, and light pressure is applied by hand or the block 41 to cause the carbon sheets to be fed forwards with the webs.
