Abstract
383,362. Revolubly mounting wheels on splined shafts. AUSTIN, H., Lickey Grange, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Sept. 30, 1931, No. 27201. [Class 80 (ii).] A wheel or other member in changespeed or other gear is rotatably mounted on a splined shaft A by means of a sleeve B, the outer surface of which serves as a journal, and the inner surface of which is formed with splines to engage those on the shaft A. The sleeve is preferably located by forcing its central portion B<1> into a groove turned on the splines a, and is subsequently turned or ground true in situ ; alternatively, the sleeve may be secured to the shaft by a pin. As applied to change-speed gear, a wheel with double helical teeth is mounted on the sleeve B, and is prevented from moving axially thereon by its engagement with a corresponding lay shaft wheel.
