Abstract

383,104. Pile fabrics. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.- (Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co., Inc. ; Thompsonville, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Jan. 9, 1932, No. 710. [Class 142 (iv).] A fabric with a pile surface comprising a ground pile area 10 and a figure pile area 11 formed from pile yarns 8, 9 of different colour or other characteristic has a space 13 formed between the areas by omitting one or more pile yarns, preferably ground pile yarns 8, thus giving an embossed effect to the figure, which may be thrown into greater relief by forming the two areas of different ply yarns, thus three ply yarns 9 may be used in the figure, and two ply yarns 8 in the ground. The two areas may be formed of different colours, and the fabric may also be sheared in a known way to emphasize the contrasting effect. The backing fabric may comprise pairs of back wefts 2, intermediate wefts 3, surface wefts 4, stuffing warps 5, 6 and binding warps 7. It may be woven face up or down in an Axminster loom with the pile tufts introduced by tube frames, or by nippers or grippers, or it may be woven in a jacquard loom having separate grids for lifting the fabric and pile-forming thread respectively.
