Abstract

381,811. Indicating liquid levels. NETTEL, F., 7, Minami Teramachi Mita Shiba-Ku, Tokio. Jan. 30, 1932, No. 2891. [Class 123 (i).] A liquid level indicator, applicable to highpressure steam boilers, comprises a tube a containing an electric heater b, b<1> and surrounded by a coil c, c<1> connected to an indicator such as a Wheatstone bridge and galvanometer. The coil c, c<1> is exposed to the heat from the wire b, b<1> and to the cooling effect of the liquid. The latter effect varies with the depth of immersion, which is thus measured by the indicator. An enclosing tube d is provided. The effect of temperature changes in the liquid may be compensated in known manner. The readings of the indicator may be checked by providing an additional tube f, Fig. 2, open at the bottom, and having a small opening h at the top. A stop-cock g having a much larger opening to the atmosphere is provided, and when closed allows the apparatus to operate in the normal manner. When the cock g is opened, liquid fills the tube f and a reading can be obtained which should correspond to the highest water level in the boiler. The low water level may be checked by introducing a pressure fluid through the cock g to expel water from the tube f.
