Abstract

381,534. Two-stroke engines. MACKENZIE, D. G., 17, Northbrook Road, Ilford, Essex. April 2, 1931, No. 9956. [Class 7 (ii).] In an opposed piston engine the upper piston 4 drives on the crank shaft 6 through a beam 9, return rods 10, and annular pump piston 17 crossheads 12 and connecting rods 11 ; the pump supplies the air charge. It may be single or double-acting and delivers to a reservoir 23, which is in communication with the interior of the casing 1 surrounding the power cylinders 2 and with the inlet ports 14. Pistons, cooling.-Some of the air from the upper pump chamber may pass through a non-return valve, a pipe 29 and duct 30 to a chamber formed within the cover 26. This air can then pass through pipes 24 into the interior of the upper piston 4 flowing thence into the casing interior to form part of the charge.
