Abstract

381,247. Cable clamps. GARLAND, C. S., Oaklands, Battenhall, Worcester. July 9, 1931, No. 19802. [Class 36.] A flexible clamp for supporting an overhead line, such as an electric conductor or a telpher wire, comprises a plurality of spaced clamping units disposed on the line on one side of a support and pivotally connected together by rigid links to form a chain of units which is connected at its end by links to the support. Fig. 6 shows a straining clamp for an overhead conductor 32 comprising spaced clamping units 29, 30, 31 pivoted together by pairs of links 35, 36. The unit 29 is connected by links 34 to an anchorage plate 33 which may carry a guide 38 and auxiliary grip 37 for leading the cable from the clamp. Fig. 4 shows a modified arrangement in which chains of clamping units 21, 24 and 23, 25 are disposed one on either side of a suspension insulator 18 to support a cable 28. The clamping units are preferably formed as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, consisting of a body portion 9 having a groove 10 in which the conductor 60 is clamped by a cap portion 8 secured to the body portion by bolts 11. The connecting links 4, 7 are rotatably mounted on trunnions 6 which are formed on the sides of the body portion 9 on a level with the clamping groove 10. The groove 10 may be provided with a split liner to facilitate the gripping of the conductor.
