Abstract

380,733. Hydraulic seals for minimizing explosions. WEESE, E., 16, Karlsbaderstrasse, Grunewald, Berlin. March 21, 1932, No. 8391. [Class 135.] A water trap for arresting back explosion waves in gas apparatus and pipe lines comprises inner and outer compartments a, al, as shown, in the Figure, with inlet and outlet pipes b, k. The gas normally passes from the pipe b through the water seal into the inner chamber a and then through the coiled conduit c and throttling device d into the outer chamber a<1> from which it passes through a second throttling device e into the discharge pipe. Any back explosion raises the water level in the inner chamber a and closes off the inlet pipe b whilst the explosion wave is also retarded in the detour conduit c and dissipated by the throttling device d. A cut-off valve operated by a float in the water seal and disposed in the inlet or discharge pipe may be used additionally.
