Abstract

379,730. Coating confectionery. HICKLEY, H. W., 21, Barlby Road, London. June 1, 1931, No. 15960. [Class 28 (i).] The formation of " tails " in the transfer of coated articles from the coating-conveyer to the cooling-conveyer is prevented by arranging a continuously moving surface, i.e. a roller or endless belt, beneath and in contact with the coating conveyer, and in proximity to the terminal roller, the surface moving at a speed greater than the conveyer and in the same direction to move the bottom coating of the centre, or the excess coating, forwardly relative to the centre and counteract the tendency to tail-forming. As shown, the high-speed roller 5, which is driven by a gear wheel engaging a pinion on. the end of the roller shaft, and if desired through a change-speed device, is positioned beneath the wire coating-conveyer 6, and the roller 5 is grooved to accommodate the knuckles in the wire conveyer. The roller 5 is journalled in bearings in the side frames of the machine and an adjustable scraper 10 is supported by straps 12 embracing reduced portions of the bearings. The scraper 10 is notched to correspond with the grooved roller 5. The terminal roller 7 is geared to the wheel driving the pinion on the roller shaft. The roller 5 may be axially reciprocated by a cam on its end engaging a fixed pin. The cooling conveyer passes over an adjustable knife-edge 22. Two or more rollers 5 may be used.
