Abstract

378,236. Motor power plant. WHITE, W. A. and WHITE'S MARINE ENGINEER. ING CO., Ltd., Prince Consort Road, Hebburn-on-Tyne. Sept. 16, 1931, No. 25978. [Class 110 (iii).] In a power plant comprising a reciprocating steam (or internal-combustion) engine A and an exhaust turbine, the turbine comprises ahead and astern sections 9, 11 respectively. An automatically operated change-over valve 7 directs steam to one of the turbine sections dependent upon the direction of rotation of the engine A. A valve 13 may lead steam directlv to the condenser 14 from the L.P. cylinder 5. The idly running section of the turbine is connected to the condenser. Double reduction gearing connects the turbine shaft with the driven shaft 18, and single reduction gearing the reciprocating engine shaft 15. A hand-wheel 23 is operated to reverse the drive of the engine through a worm and worm-wheel 24, 25, links 26, 30, and a rocking lever 29. The change-over valve 7 is moved by a lever 32 and rods 33, 34. A separator 36 may be included in the steam pipe 6. The engine A may drive the shaft 18 directly. A resilient drive may be employed between the engine and turbine driving systems. The gearing may be replaced by electrical or hydraulic transmission. Specification 362,255 is referred to.
