Abstract

376,712. Electromedical baths. STANGER, H., 4, Militõrstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Jan. 8, 1931, No. 724. Convention date, Jan. 8, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 26.] An electromedical bath is provided on the inner longitudinal sides with plates constituting electrodes between which are arranged interchangeable devices whereby the current flowing through the bath fluid can be directed to operate particularly on individual parts of the body or to cut out such parts from the current action. The said devices may be solid partitions of insulating or conducting materials, or fabric screening members provided with electrodes on one or both sides or formed with pockets to contain medicaments. Alternatively, inflatable air containers arranged on the front and rear of the body may be used. A wooden or other bath 1 (Fig. 1) is provided with electrodes 2, while a box-like member 5. provided with electrodes 6, 7 serves for individual treatment of a limb. Partitions 8, 10 having electrodes 9, 11 respectively are also fitted. The electrodes are all connected to supply terminals 3, 4. Other partitions serving as supports for the back or resting on the chest may be used for local application of electricity. A pocket-like member 20 contains medicaments and may carry an electrode. The partition members may be jointed so as to be flexible and the separate parts provided with plates which can be drawn up. By this means fluid can be directed forcibly against the body where apparatus as in Fig. 10 having circulation means is employed. The fluid from the container 32, which may contain a heater or medicaments, enters by a conduit 31a and is discharged into a pipe 31b having a suction pump 33. The partition 39 may have perforations 40 which increase in size with the distance from the inlet. A flexible branch conduit 35 has a nozzle 36 connected at 37 to one pole of an electric circuit, the other of which is connected to the bath electrodes. Charged fluid can thus be directed against any part of the body. Similarly, a bell 42 with fluid inlet 43 and an electric contact 45 may be used for treating any particular part. To enable small volumes of fluid to be used, a hammock of watertight material may be hung from the bath sides so as to press closely against the body of the patient. Metal gauze or other electrodes may be fitted.
