Abstract

Sintered alloys consisting of one or more of the metals iron, nickel, and cobalt, and carbides of one or more of the metals titanium, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, and uranium are made by mixing the iron, nickel, or cobalt in the form of a salt of an organic acid with the carbide and reducing the metal from the salt, for example by firing in a coal furnace in a current of hydrogen, whereupon the mixture is raised to sintering temperature. The organic salts may be oxalates, citrates, or tartrates, and the mixture may be ground both before and after reduction. Specification 346,632 is referred to.
