Abstract

374,619. Switch contacts. PEARCE, H., Green Mount, Barrington Road, Altrincham, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. May 30, 1931, No. 15886 [Class 38 (v).] Switch contacts 5, 6 for use in A.C. circuits are provided on their engaging faces with slots or sawcuts 7, 8, which are arranged normal, or at an angle, to one another, so that the loop formed by the current paths 1 being deflected to points of contact (which occur owing to the difficulty of obtaining complete surface contact) is made larger, and the repulsive forces tending to separate the contacts are thereby reduced. Slots in the form of concentric circles may co-operate with parallel slots or radial slots, Figs. 5, 6, and 7 (not shown), to lengthen the loops. The invention is applicable also where the surfaces are brought together with a sliding movement.
