Abstract

374,270. Road signs. SHAW, J., 462, Lees Road, Oldham. June 6, 1931, No. 16552. [Class 3 (ii).] A warning sign for use on a tramway track under repair comprises a horizontal arm A which extends over the track and is adapted to be moved out of the way by a tramcar, while acting as a warning to other traffic. The arm is pivotally mounted on a post B carried by a trolley or other base C, and is provided with' a restoring spring A<1>. Two or more tyred wheels D carried by the arm are adapted to ride smoothly over the side of the car, and are suitably spaced to span the entrance and exit etc.; these are mounted on spindles d<1> and a lower supporting bar d<2> is provided to prevent either wheel from falling off. A jack to prevent motion of the device on its wheels c<1> when in position comprises a foot mounted on a screw C<1> which also serves as a pivot for the front axle. The arm is formed with an extension a away from the track, and both parts may carry ruby reflex lights a<1>, a<3>. The arm may be formed with apertures a<2> or constructed of lattice to prevent its being moved by the wind.
