Abstract
373,899. Turning-gear. SOC. DE PARIS ET DU RHONE, 41, Chemin de St-Priest, Lyons, France. Sept. 28, 1931, No. 26972. Convention date, Oct. 3, 1930. Addition to 342,624. [Class 7 (v).] A dynamo-electric machine serving as a starting-motor and as an enging-driven genera. tor is geared to the engine by a belt, the tension of which is increased, when the machine is used as a motor, simultaneously with the operation of a switch 1 in the motor circuit of the machine. According to the invention, the closing of the switch 1 is effected only after the tension of the belt has been increased to the required degree. As shown, the switch 1 is actuated by a handle 2 connected by a rod 3, a bell crank 6 and a spring 5 to a jockey pulley for tensioning the belt. In a modification, separate controls for the switch and the jockey pulley are actuated simultaneously. Means may be provided for tensioning the belt to a less degree when the machine is driven as a generator, and means for increasing the torque on starting, such as described in Specification 262,064, [Class 38 (iv), Electric supply and transmission systems &c.].
