Abstract

372,944. Stoppering. RHODES, C. J., Grove Iron Works, Wakefield, Yorkshire. May 8, 1931, No. 13676. [Class 125 (ii).] Machines for applying lids to cans, of the type comprising an intermittently rotated table carrying the filled cans to which lids are fed from a magazine, have a stop mechanism actuated when a predetermined number of lids remain in the magazine. A clutch or brake is actuated through links g, f by a slidable member i pivoted to a lever d and normally bearing against the lids c in the magazine, but movable under the action of a spring h when, for example, three lids are left, to apply the brake or release the clutch, which cannot be re-engaged except by hand. A screw j on a member reciprocated from an eccentric l moves in a slot i<1> of the member i and periodically engages the end of the slot to withdraw the member i from contact with the lids to allow them to fall under gravity.
