Abstract

368,050. Expanding pulley gearing. BILLON, M.. 2, Square St-Armour, Besanþon, Doubs, and BONAME, G., 37, Rue Taitbout, Paris, both in France. Feb. 24, 1931, No. 5819. Convention date, March 28, 1930. [Class 80 (ii).] Belt pulley gearing comprises a multiple expanding pulley with alternate coned discs 10, Fig. 1, fast on a shaft 1, and paired discs or movable flanges 9 rigidly secured to keys 3 connected to a common control sleeve 4 sliding on that shaft. The keys 3 pass through apertures 5, Fig. 2, in the discs 10. An arrangement comprising driving and driven multiple pulleys with a plurality of belts may be operable by hand or automatically by torque-transmitting screws or cams exerting axial thrust on the connecting-means. A driving - shaft 1<1>, Fig. 10, which carries the fixed discs 10<1> exerts axial thrust through a transmitting cam 14<1> on a sleeve 3<1> which connects and carries the movable discs 9<1>. The power passes by two belts 6 to a double pulley 92, 102 in which a sliding connecting sleeve 3<2> drives a shaft 1<2> through a cam 14<2>. Levers 171, 172 connected to the two sliding sleeves respectively are connected by a cross-bar 19 having a cam surface 20 against which the lever 17<2> rests. Manual control may be superposed by a hand-lever 22. An arrangement is described with a single torque control cam acting against a spring. Connecting-means for the movable flanges may comprise a frame or grid supported about the shaft and passing freely through the fixed flanges.
