Abstract

363,752. Slicing vegetables. MEREDITH & DREW, Ltd. and WRIGHT, F. R., 164, High Street, Shadwell, London. Oct. 13, 1930, No. 30579. [Class 5 (i).] Apparatus for cutting thin corrugated slices of potatoes and similar foodstuffs with the corrugations on opposite sides of the slice running at an angle to each other, is so constructed that in successive cuts the cutters act in directions inclined to one another, angular movement of the potato &c. between successive cuts being unnecessary. Co-planar discs 2, 3 rotated in opposite directions by bevel gears, Fig. 2, bear corrugated cutters 4, 5. The potato to be sliced is fed by any suitable means such as a hand presser 24 into contact with the discs, which are formed segmentally, as shown. In a modification, Fig. 3, corrugated cutters 42, 43 are mounted on a disc 27 freely mounted in a frame 28 which is linked at 30, 31 to a fixed base. An eccentric shaft 34 on the disc is pivoted to an arm 35 pivoted at its other end to a fixed shaft 39 from which power is transmitted to the shaft 34 by belt-and-pulley transmission. The combined oscillatory and rotary motion so produced causes the knives, during cutting, to move in inclined directions.
