Abstract

363,534. Dish-washing machines. COLLINS, C. F., Dunorlan, Tunbridge Wells, RENDLE, V., The Hut, Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells, and CROSS, W., of Stanley Engineering Works, Stanley Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Jan. 28, 1931, No. 2799. [Class 138 (i).] A machine for washing dishes or like articles, comprising two tanks from which washing or rinsing liquid may be drawn by a pump and forced through nozzles on dishes or like articles contained in a rotatable basket or a container, is provided with a spring-pressed valve member adapted to control communication between the pump and one or other of the tanks, the valve member being provided with an outlet passage controlled by an auxiliary valve member and both members being operated by a single lever or handle. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the outlets from the tanks 1, 2 terminate in a space occupied by a conical plug 7 formed with ports 7b, 7c and opening at the top into a pump chamber 4d. The lower part of the plug has an axial bore 10a, which may be closed by means of a plug cock 10 provided with a handle 11. By rotation of the handle about the vertical axis of the plug 7, one or other of the tanks 1, 2 is brought into communication with the pump, while by turning the handle about its horizontal axis, the cock 10 is opened or closed, as desired. The handle 11 may be connected by links to a pivoted shoot 14, as shown in Fig. 4, so that when the pump communicates with a tank, the shoot is arranged to direct the used water back to the tank from which it was pumped. The Provisional Specification also describes a modification in which the handle is fixed to the main plug and operates through a lateral slot in the body of the valve, while in place of the auxiliary plug, one or more extra ports at a lower level are provided) and co-operate, with outlets in the valve by a further lateral movement of the handle.
