Abstract

362,532. Cigarette-making machines. RUAU, F. F. and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. Sept. 12, 1930, No. 27254. [Class 130.] In a device for delivering cigarettes from a continuous-rod machine in separate batches, the cigarettes of each batch having their corresponding ends disposed in the same direction, a conveyer tape 2 receives successive cigarettes and displaces them axially from one another, and a pair of rotating vanes 5 each remove alternate cigarettes from the tape 2 and deposit them on a transverse conveyer belt 6, rough surfaces being provided on the vanes for braking the axial speed of the cigarettes. As shown, the working faces of the vanes are covered with friction material 7 such as emery cloth, and the vanes are so timed that the axial motion of the cigarettes is completely eliminated by friction an instant before they are delivered to the belt 6. The separation of the cigarettes is facilitated by a rotating disc 3 which co-operates with the tape 2, and hanging pieces of fabric 8 check the movement given to the cigarettes by the vanes.
