[Class 51 (i).] In Cowper stoves to which the gas is supplied at velocities considerably exceeding the velocity of combustion an open mesh grid d is arranged within the combination shaft b in the path of the gas and air mixture supplied through the horizontal conduit c. Additional bars d<1>, d<2> are secured to the bars of the grid d over the central position of the grid, or the bars may converge radially to the centre. A cone e may be mounted at the centre of the grid having its apex directed against the stream, or concentric rings may be provided spaced either uniformly or at increasing distances apart towards the periphery of the grid.
