361,163. Making composite pipes. FAGERSTA BRUKS AKTIEBOLAG, Fagersta, Sweden. Dec. 23, 1930, No. 38790. Convention date, Sept. 25. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Rolling tubes ; cores and fillings.-In making hollow drill steels or other hollow metal goods, steel is cast round a lining tube of rust-resisting iron or steel in a chill mould so as to weld it to the tube, and after treatment of the ingot in roughing rolls the bore of the composite billet thus produced is rendered round, central and uniform by drawing or forcing a drift therethrough &c. The billet is then converted into a tube blank by rolling on a mandrel and is subsequently converted into a drill steel &c. by rolling in a finishing mill on a metal or sand core. The lining tube, previous to casting, is provided with a sand core or with a core of metal or alloy, with or without an intermediate layer, such core being removed from the billet prior to rendering the bore uniform ; a metal core is removed from the billet by hammering or pressing, a sand core is removed by dipping the hot billet in water so as to generate steam which blows out the sand.
