Abstract
360,964. Centreless grinding. CHURCHILL MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., Broadheath, near Manchester, and ASBRIDGE, H. H., Claremont, Washway Road, Ashton-on-Mersey. Aug. 14, 1930, No. 24346. [Class 60.] A centreless grinding-machine for grinding the peripheral surface of bushes &c. concentric with a preformed bore, comprises a grinding-wheel a carried by a bed b, upon which is mounted a slide e carrying a second slide d supporting a regulating- wheel c ; the sides e, d may be looked respectively to the bed and to the slide e by screws k, l. The slide e carries, on a pivot g, a work-supporting bracket f having therein screwed studs h, i serving to limit the movements of the bracket, which is acted upon by a spring urging it towards the regulating-wheel. The slide d can be moved either by rotation of a screw m, or upon locking that screw by a screw r, by rotation of a handle n carrying a threaded sleeve rotatable in the slide d upon the screw m, the movement of the handle n being limited by stops o, p. The bracket f has secured thereto an arbor s, which is a working fit in the bore of a work-piece u, and supports this during grinding with its axis either above or below the plane of the axes of the wheels a, c, the grinding being performed by locking the slide e to the bed band advancing the regulating-wheel by the handle n until this encounters the stop p and the stops h encounter the slide e, when the work will have been ground to size. The arbor s or the part thereof within the work may be free to rotate. Specifica. tion 311,489, [Class 60, Grinding or abrading &c.],. is referred to.
