Abstract

360,828. Stencilling- apparatus. HART, F., 2749, San Marino, Los Angeles, U.S.A. July 5, 1930, No. 20455. [Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii).] In stencilling-apparatus of the kind comprising an endless belt which carries the stencil and which travels over a platform on to which the work is fed, guides are provided on the platform adapted to engage the margins of the belt to prevent buckling thereof and to ensure the coincident advance of the belt, stencil, and work. In one form, a stencil, consisting of fabric blocked out in the usual way and mounted in a frame, is attached to a metal belt d, Figs. 2 and 3, passing over positively driven rollers 34, 35 provided with teeth engaging perforations near one edge of the belt. The lower stretch of the belt passes over a platform c on to which cards &c. b laid on an endless band a are fed, and the marginal edges of the belt and the stencilframe engage slots 7 in guides 5, 6 mounted on the platform. Each card as it arrives on the platform is pushed against a side gauge n which is subsequently depressed by blocks 77 carried by the belt d, whereupon projections on the belt engage the rear edge of the card and feed it through printing position. Colour is applied by a pipe f supplied from a container 65, and is pressed through the stencil by a spring-pressed squeegee g. Three methods of attaching the stencil frame to the belt d are described. (1) Tongues on the frame engage dovetail slots in the belt. (2) A thickened part on the edge of the frame abuts against a shoulder on the belt, screws being passed through the overlapping parts. (3) Projections on the belt and the frame are folded on themselves to provide hooks which interlock. In a modified form of apparatus, the cards are fed completely through the machine bv an endless band. Pile tables.-An automatic feed for the cards comprises a pile-table 203, Fig. 14, which is raised each time a card is removed by a projection 200 on a feed band u. The card passes over a table 204 and engages the end of a trip lever 207 adapted to release a one-revolution clutch 208 whereby a crank 210 is rotated and, through the intermediary of a rod 211 and a ratchet device, turns a screw engaging a nut fixed to the table 203.
