Abstract

360,285. Steam superheaters. BRUCE, J., 31, Deyncourt Gardens, Upminster, Essex. Jan. 29, 1931, No. 2917. [Class 123 (iii).] In an installation comprising a number of boilers 1 each equipped with a superheater 4, when the supply of steam to a superheater from its boiler is cut off, say at starting up, by closing a valve 7 in the supply pipe 6, steam from the other boilers is supplied to the superheater from the saturated steam main 18 by opening a valve 20 in a pipe 19 connecting the main to the superheater. The pipe 8 connecting the outlet header 3 of a superheater with the superheated steam main 11 is fitted with a cut-off valve 10 and has a byepass controlled by a valve 13. Condensation is led off through a drain pipe 14. When a boiler is under light load, a section only of its superheater may be cut off from communication with the boiler and supplied with steam from the main 18, or the superheater may be entirely cut off from the boiler, which may then be placed in direct communication with the main 18. To prevent overheating of a steam reheater 25 when its normal steam supply is shut off by closing a valve 27 in the supply pipe 26, steam from the main 18 is circulated through-the reheater by opening a valve 30 in a pipe connecting the main to the inlet header 23. The cooling steam after passing through the reheater may be delivered either into the superheater steam main 11 or into the reheated steam delivery pipe 36.
