Abstract

360,218. Jib cranes. ARROL & CO., Ltd., SIR W. and SHEPHERD, R. G., 92, Rigby Street, Parkhead, Glasgow. Nov. 25, 1930, No. 35499. [Class 78 (iv).] In a level luffing jib crane having its jib foot mounted above the turntable on a frame so as to enable balancing means for the jib to move in an arc about the jib foot pin axis, balance arms g, g<1>, having balance weights g<4>, g<5>, are mounted on the jib foot pin a and are disposed one on each side of the jib and attached thereto at g<2>, g<3>, by shock absorbing springs i<1>. The jib is luffed by one or more rods h<1>, each rod being actuated by a crank h and connected at g<6> to the arms g, g<1>, by shock absorbing springs i. To maintain the load at a constant level during luffing the hoisting rope is passed over compensating sheaves c, c<1>, f, f<1>. In a modification, Fig. 3, the connecting rod C of the luffing mechanism is connected to the arms g, g<1>, by an arm j.
