358,947. Variable speed gearing; clutches. PORSCHE, F., Steyr, Austria. April 7, 1930, No. 11019. Convention date, April 5, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 80 (ii).] The isolating-clutch B of the change-speed gear A of a vehicle is a combined friction and claw clutch. When the engine clutch pedal 10 is depressed, the engine clutch C is first disengaged. A link 25 then strikes a lever 23 which disengages the positive parts 21, 22 of the clutch B. The claws 21 and a cone 17 slide together on the driven shaft 15 of the gearing A, and the claws 22 are fast on the shaft 16 leading to the differential. As cone 17 moves to the left, a cone 18 feathered on shaft 16 is thrust after it by a spring 20, so that the frictional drive is disengaged after and engaged before the positive drive. In a modified form of combined claw and friction clutch, the claws and the friction cone are on members separately movable in the same direction, so that they engage and disengage in succession.
