Abstract

<PICT:0357396/III/1> In a process for producing ammonium sulphate nitrate by introducing sulphuric acid and ammonia into ammonium nitrate solution with utilization of the heat of neutralization for complete or partial evaporation of the solution water, operations are carried out under strongly alkaline conditions to avoid nitrogen losses, the hot vapours arising being led directly into a rectifying column which produces concentrated ammoniacal liquor in the known manner by means of reflux cooling. The hot water vapours containing ammonia from the saturator a pass to a rectifying column c, wherein they are enriched in ammonia, and then to a reflux condenser e which sends back part of the deposited vapours through a pipe f, the remainder being condensed in a condenser h to give concentrated ammoniacal liquor. Liquid practically free from ammonia leaves by a pipe k. A small quantity of steam may be introduced at l.
