354,859. Electromagnets. HERZFELD, A., 33, Treustrasse, and ERLENHORST, O., REICHEL-, 40, Margarethenstrasse, both in Vienna. May 20, 1930, No. 15550. Convention date, April 16. Addition to 350,160, [Group XXVII]. [Class 35.] A flap governing the air choke of a carburetter is rotated bv the armature 17 of a solenoid 18, through a link 21 and a slotted arm 22 clamped adjustably on the axle which is loaded, so as to keep the valve normally open, by a spring 16. The solenoid has a closing yoke 19, and is actuated simultaneously with the electric starter, the movement of the armature being damped by a small flap valve 27 placed over a hole in the end of cylinder 26 in which the armature slides. The solenoid may be mounted on a bracket 29 above the fuel level, and the armature 17 preferably moves in a horizontal direction so as to be less affected by vibration. The whole device is covered by a hood 30. In a modification, Fig. 4, the axle 13 is rotated by a U-shaped magnet 33 and armature 34 split longitudinally and adapted to be clamped in any position to the axle. The magnet 33 is provided with wing-shaped extensions 37 to generate a flux in the open position of the valve.
