354,137. Motor vehicle steering-gear. ARATO, A., 47. Corso Francia, Turin, Italy. Nov. 24, 1930, No. 35331. Convention date, Nov. 23, 1929. [Class 79 (v).] A straight-steering arrangement or stabilizer for steering-gear comprises a single elastic member 15 capable of reacting elastically both when extended and compressed and which is connected at one end to the axle beam 2 near one end and at the other end to the parallel steering linkage near the other end of the axle 2. In the construction shown the steering arms 6, 9 are connected together by the track rod 11, and the arm 6 is extended at 8 for operation by the drag link (not shown). The elastic member comprises a casing 15, a spring 25, and a sliding rod 18. The spring 25 is located between collars 19, 20, of which 19 bears against a sleeve 22 on the casing 15 and a nut 21 on the rod 18, while 20 bears against shoulders 23, 24 formed in the rod and casing respectively. Thus the spring is compressed whether the rod is pushed into or drawn out from the casing and tends always to return the steering-gear to the straight-ahead position.
