Abstract

353,931. Removing ball races from shafts. ANDREWS, B. R. K., 22, Parry Street, Hamilton, New South Wales, Australia. April 24, 1930, No. 12615. [Class 61 (iii).] Means for removing ball races from shafts and housings comprise a yoke 15, screw 16, bridle bars 19 fastened to the yoke by screws 20, and a ring 13 having screws 14 arranged to pass through holes in the bridle bars and engage an inner race of a ball bearing. Fig. 2 shows the bridle bars reversed with their bent ends pressed against the ball race by the screws 14 so that rotation of the screw handle 17 draws the race from its shaft. The bridle bars 19 are forced outwards by springs 21 and the screws 14 are set downwards so that a pull along the bridle pieces causes them to grip the race more tightly. Fig. 4 shows a device for removing outer races in which the screw 16 is provided with a wedge end which presses against abutments 43 and forces the claw-ends of bridles 40, loosely held at 45, 46, underneath a race 42 to enable it to be withdrawn. By providing the device of Fig. 2 with a wedge for the screw and by turning the bridles so that the bent ends are outwards, it may also be used for extracting outer races.
