Abstract

353,408. Electric switchboards. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., Hebburn-on-Tyne, and CHRISTIE, J., 4, Sidecliff Road, Sunderland. Feb. 21, 1930, No. 5818. [Class 38 (v).] Oil switches; earthing.-In a metal-clad switchgear arrangement, a tubular casing formed within the bus-bar or like chamber is detachably connected to an orifice in the cover of the circuit-breaker tank so that when detached the tank may be removed without substantially lowering it. An insulated conductor normally connects, preferably through an isolating switch, the bus-bar or other conductor in the chamber to one of the fixed contacts of the circuit breaker, such insulated conductor being, however, withdrawable through the top of the tubular casing. As shown in the Figure tubular casings E pass through the bus-bar and feeder chambers B, C and are connected by detachable connections E<1> consisting of flexible metallic casings to orifices in the cover A<1> of the circuit-breaker tank A which is supported on the truck D. The tubular casings E are formed of insulating material in which are secured metal rings E<3> carrying the pivoted arms J of isolating switches adapted normally to engage the bus-bar B<1> or feeder end C<1>. Operating mechanism for the isolating switches J may be arranged to move the switch arms against earthed contacts B2. Connections F are situated normally within the tubes E, said connectors having springy contact blades F<3> at their upper ends normally engaging the inside of the rings E<3> their lower portions of the connectors projecting into insulating tubes H<1> within the circuit-breaker tank, plug contacts at the lower ends of the connections engaging the fixed contacts H of the circuit breaker. These connectors may be surrounded by condenser bushings around which are secured flanged rings F<2> held within the orifices of the switch tank cover by divided rings G clamped under the ends of the detachable tube connections E<1>. The tubes E and the connections E<1> may be filled with oil and drain cocks L may be provided for emptying them before the removal of the circuit breaker. For withdrawing the connectors F from the tubes E a special tool may be provided. After the withdrawal of the connectors and detachment of the connections E<1> from the switch cover the circuit breaker in its tank may be wheeled away on its truck.
