Abstract

351,696. Holders for rolls of paper &c. HEATH, H. F., Salisbury House, Redditch, Worcester, and CORKE, C. L., 14, New Bridge Street, London. May 27, 1930, No. 16264. [Class 18.] A holder for rolls of paper and the like of the kind having a plate, strip, or like member constituting a cutting blade or tearing guide disposed at one side of the roll, and means for urging said plate against the side of the roll, is characterized by the said blade or guide forming a shield or cover for the roll or for a part thereof. The roll holder comprises a frame 1, having an upper bar 2 and depending arms 3, the lower ends of which are turned inwardly at 4 to engage holes in a wooden or other roller 5 which carries the roll 6 of paper or other material. The upper bar carries brackets 7 with slots 8 for suspension purposes. Pivotally mounted on the main frame is an auxiliary frame of strip material having a lower bar 9, extending parallel with the axis of the roll and just above the roll, and two vertical arms 10 through which the top bar of the main frame passes. The arms 10 are cranked inwardly at 11 to make room for coiled springs 12, one end 13 of each of which engages the secondary frame while the other ends engage the main frame so that the edge 16 of a plate 15 is urged against the side of the roll. Weights may be used instead of or in addition to the springs. The plate 15, which forms a cover or shield for the roll, preferably extends beyond both ends of the roll and the edge 16 may be sharp and need not be parallel to the axis of the roll. The cover member may extend completely around the roll, the material being withdrawn through a slot one edge of which forms the tearing edge, or a slot may be provided in a cover member which only covers a part of the roll.
