Abstract
350,352. Sawing metal. CLIFTON & BAIRD, Ltd. and SYME, J., Empress Works, Johnstone, Renfrewshire. Sept. 25, 1930, No. 28689. [Class 145 (ii).] Work holders ; circular-saw machines.-A work holder for a metal-sawing or like machine comprises a beam 1 vertically adjustable on two screwthreaded pillars 4 so as to clamp the work beneath it by the aid of screw clamps 23 adjustable laterally along the beam. The beam is moved by means of nuts 10 carrying worm wheels 9 gearing with worms 8 on a shaft 7 driven by an electromotor 5. In a modified form shown in Fig. 3 the beam is arranged to slide in the right-hand block 4a and is disengaged therefrom by means of a rack 12 so that it may be swung round the left-hand pillar. The motor serves as a counterweight, with or without an extra counterweight P, and the shaft 7 engages a clutch 18 on a collinear shaft 19. Fig. 5 shows another form wherein the right-hand pillar is divided at 4e to allow the swinging of the beam.
